Welcome back to football Colts footy fans and welcome to all of our new families that have come to the club this year.
We will start colts wrap this year in the order of games played.
Junior Colts – To properly explain our Junior Colts this week I have cast my memory back to round 4 2017 when JP beat SF 15-5 to 2-4. 13 of our players on that day are still in Junior Colts and today our lads came of age and showed that all of the hard work that Ted, Jamie and Sticks have put into them wasn’t wasted these past few years with a commanding win that has put them on top of the ladder after round 1.
Final Scores Southern Flinders
19-22 136 def Jamestown Peterborough 0-0 0
Goals Jaxon Brand 7, Ronald Nash 5, David Nash 3, Max Flowers 3, Connor Cowin, Chad Flavel
Best Players Jaxon Brand, Max Flowers, Charlie Millard, Jayden Walker, Bodie Gilby
Senior Colts was a tougher contest with us turning up with 13 to face the 2018 premiers. Jamestown Peterborough gave us a few players and thankfully we had 18 a side to start. The opposition got away to a good start in the first quarter but once our lads narrowed up their game plan and concentrated on the central corridor, they put up a great contest that wasn’t reflected in the scores.
Final Scores Southern Flinders 0-1 1 lost to Jamestown Peterborough
18-23 131Best Players Zach Kleinman, Kaden Magnay, Flynn Hayes, Will Smart, Isaac Willsmore.
Minis/Subbies This week had a hard encounter against a tough opposition however every Sub Mini I spoke to assured me that they won. A special mention to our 13 first year players who made their debut for the club today.
This week we saw the A grade Football team bring in a new “A Grade experience for a Mini” idea. Eddie McCallum led the A grade side onto the field, did the warm up, won the coin toss and then got placed in the middle of the circle after the game for the team song. This is an opportunity that has been made available by our A grade side for Minis age players this year. I would encourage all parents of Minis age players to stay back and see the experience that our A grade side are offering to your children this year.
Finally, this week on behalf of our SFFC colts committee we were most concerned to see our Senior Colts coach Bingo go down with a knee injury in the opening moments of the A grade game. Hopefully it’s not too serious Bingo. I’m sure all SFFC Colts footballers are hoping it is just a minor hurdle for your season.
No Colts training this Thursday however any who would like to train Tuesday with the A & B grade at Wirrabara are welcome.
