Grand Final
Well what a night! MNWF was held on a typical football season night. Everyone came rugged up and ready for a good night of football, and that’s exactly what we got. The Tiger girls had lots of nervous energy prior to the game and we all knew that taking on Orroroo who were noted for their rough and relentless play was going to be a big climb but no mountain is ever too high.
Seemingly we were the under dogs and the wishes of success from other clubs who had taken on the Joeys and left wounded were heartfelt and appreciated.
Final rev up from Mickey O with some tactical info and a almost full team on the park although we didn’t have Corrie due to injury, it was time !
I said last week to hold on to your heart pills and from the first bounce I think our hearts stopped! War had begun! Hard hits, desperation for the ball, tackles that brought a few tears to our eyes and not one easy kick was played the whole game..Tigers started strong getting on the scoreboard early with Larn slotting a goal and our defences working overtime holding the waves of Red and Black to 1point by Qtr time.
The next 2 Qtrs saw only a few points either way on the board such was the intensity. Frustration had infiltrated the Joeys and the dial was turned to HIGH resulting in a turn of tactics. Nikki Fejo felt the hits hard resulting in injury ( shoulder ) and Renee Kretch and Brit White targeted for the remainder of the game. 3Qtr time scores Tigers 1.4 v Joeys 1.6
Final Qtr... both teams went for broke.
Moni, Leah and Emma Kerr worked overtime to hold the Joeys at bay but they had a couple of goals early on the board. Helen Gaunt and Kimmie Pitman on the forward line couldn’t get a clear run to the goals this week although Larn Opperman had a chance to score but unusually missed it right in front! She now refers to herself as Shane Woolford.
Leah Palmer wasn’t going down without a fight and found her inner Darryl to the crowds delight.
Final Score Tigers 1.4 v Joeys 3.8
A result we don’t like but what an effort by our girls. Proud is an understatement!
It truely is awesome to see a huge.. I mean huge supporter base turn up to watch. We are Incredibly great full for you all making the effort to support us.
On a disappointing night for the team, a highlight on an individual level was our Helen Goals Gaunt who won the leading goal scorer for the season and of course it was no surprise to us that Renee Kretch was named the Best and Fairest for the season. Congratulations !
A relived A and B grade netball coach can now sleep knowing the girls survived the first year... hey Kelly 🤦♀️
Well done to Orroroo...Bring on next year!
Now 🤐 I haven’t said a word about the umpiring! Ive impressed myself!
